Product Description

Direct Expansion (DX) cooling coil is a critical component of air conditioning and refrigeration systems. It is responsible for cooling and dehumidifying air by directly expanding and evaporating refrigerant within the coil.

1. Working Principle
The DX cooling coil operates on the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, where a refrigerant absorbs heat from the surrounding air, causing it to evaporate. The key steps in its working are:

Refrigerant Entry (Low-Pressure Liquid)

A metering device (TXV, capillary tube, or electronic expansion valve) regulates the flow of refrigerant into the DX coil.
The refrigerant enters as a low-pressure, low-temperature liquid.
Heat Absorption & Evaporation

As warm air passes over the coil (typically forced by a blower), heat is transferred from the air to the refrigerant.
The refrigerant absorbs heat and evaporates, turning into a low-pressure gas.
Refrigerant Exit (Low-Pressure Gas)

The refrigerant, now a gas, moves into the compressor, where it is compressed to high pressure and sent to the condenser for heat rejection.
Cooling & Dehumidification

The air leaving the coil is cooler and has lower humidity, making it suitable for air conditioning applications.
2. Components of a DX Cooling Coil
Copper or Aluminum Tubes – Efficiently transfer heat from the air to the refrigerant.
Fins (Aluminum or Copper) – Increase surface area for better heat exchange.
Refrigerant Inlet & Outlet – Allows the entry and exit of refrigerant.
Expansion Device – Controls the flow and pressure of the refrigerant entering the coil.
